Course Description   Introduction to Windows Applications will familiarize the student with microcomputer equipment and= some of its most popular uses in business and the home. Students will acquire a working knowledge of computer jargon and hardware, as well as familiarity = with the following applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database and exp= osure to Powerpoint, a presentation software and Visu= al Basic, a programming language.

Your own removable storage device is recommended but not required: flash (travel= ) drive or writable CD. If you = use CDs, I recommend the CD-R style and use the Roxi= o software.

<= b>ALL LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED HOWEVE= R, IT WILL RECEIVE A LOWER GRADE To earn an "A&q= uot; grade, an assignment must be on time. Late points ded= ucted by the following schedule: 1 week late: max 85%; 2 wks late: max 75%; 3 wks late: max: 65%; more than 3 wks late or after the unit is completed: max: = 50%

Posting and Proofing Grades     I w= ill be posting your grades on my web site. I encourage you to keep all your grade= d, returned work. If any of your grades have been entered incorrectly, bring = in the graded assignment back to me and I will gladly correct my records.

Testing Information   All tests may be taken in t= he Learning Center. If you take a test in the= Learning Center, it should be completed by= the class following the in class test. For example, if the test is scheduled f= or Thurs 2/7/08, you should take it no later then Tues 2/12, the next schedul= ed class.

If you earn less than 70% on any of the word processing, spreadshee= t or database tests, you can continue working on it up to 70%. If you want to take advantage of = this option, see me.

Format   <= /b>Both the written final and vocabulary= /terms quiz are closed book, closed notes mostly multiple choice and matching. Th= ey are both traditional paper and pencil tests. The tests for the word proces= sing, spreadsheet and database units, are open book, open notes timed tests, performed on the computer

Final E= xam = ; The final exam has 2 parts: a take home part and an in class part <= /span>

The instructions for the take home part will be handed out nea= r the end of the semester. You will create word processing, spreadsheet and database documents as indicated in the instructions. It is open book,= open notes, untimed. Bring the completed docum= ents with you to the written final.

The written final is closed book, closed notes, untimed test, mostly multip= le choice. It is a traditional paper and pencil format. I will be administering = it Thurs 5/22/08 from 1-3pm OR<= /b> you can take it in the Learning Center by Fri 5/23 by 5 pm.

Drop Policy   I do NOT automatically drop students who cease to attend. If you will not be completing the course, you are responsible for dropping the class by 4/25/08. You can drop the class = by phone (telreg) or filling out the paperwork and submitting it to Admissions and Records.

Attendance Policy Your attendance and participation are exp= ected and desired. Classes will always include time for questions form you, along with lecture and hands on activities and often include tips or information regarding the homework. Also, sharing of your opinions and questions are essential to the class and to your own education. YOU are responsible for handing papers in on time and mastering the content whether you attend cla= ss or not. I cannot teach you individually, one-to-one, the content that you mis= sed because you did not attend class.
